Key Principle 5/ Taking Action to Improve Competence

The organisation can demonstrate that it is taking effective action to improve its performance and level of compliance against the standards it has set.

Example indicators of compliance

Evidence that this stage of the framework is being addressed is likely to include:

An effective project management resource being in place with examples of a range of improvement activities resulting in an improvement in the organisation's competence rating over a period of time.

A budget linked to improving the management of business risk and regulatory requirements

The proactive use of external benchmarks, standards and networking opportunities to allow the development of a 'learning organisation'.

Examples of what this means in practice

This stage of the process is about the organisation taking effective action to improve its compliance against the standards it has set, based on the use of the measurement / assessment data.

In practice it means that a range of improvement projects will have been identified and prioritised.

These will not only cover people (including team) issues but will address business processes and systems (software) and plant, buildings and equipment (hardware) aimed at ensuring that the overall competence of the organisation improves.
