Key Principle 6/ Commitment to Continuous Improvement

The organisation is committed to the concept of continuous improvement and can provide evidence of continuous improvement against its standards

Example indicators of compliance

There will be strong evidence of the proactive use of external benchmarks, standards and networking opportunities to allow the development of a 'learning culture'.

Examples may include – Involvement in PICME (Process Industry Centre for Manufacturing Excellence); working with Cogent SSC; use of standards such as EFQM, Investors in People status and so on.

Employees at all levels will be able to describe examples of a range of improvements which have been identified and introduced. These will not only cover people (including team) issues but will address business processes and systems (software) and plant, buildings and equipment (hardware).

Examples of what this means in practice

The organisation develops a learning culture and applies the lessons learnt from all relevant experiences.

The organisation is committed to benchmarking competence performance – both over time and against similar organisations to identify elements of best practice which may be appropriate.
